50th SPICE Meeting
82nd ICECE Work Group event
Tallinn / Tartu, Estonia
20 – 24 Feb 2002

The first SPICE meeting of this year was a three days work session in Tallinn and Tartu, Estonia. On the business plan for the technology parks in Tartu and Tallinn. The business plan for the new Tallinn Technology Park was prepared by
Raivo Tamkivi and
Peeter Vörk, both contracted by the Estonian Enterprise Agency for this work. The business plans for the future development of the Tartu Science Park, the first science park in the country, was prepared by its managing director, Enn Erme and external experts from Estonia. After almost 10 years of operation – the 10th anniversary will be celebrated at the BALTIC DYNAMICS 2002 in October—the Tartu Science Park now is aiming at a phase of expansion. The expert group, Pekka Jussila, Jeff Milanette, Janis Stabulnieks, Krzysztof Zasiadly, and Heinz Fiedler evaluated both business plans positively and advised on the next steps. For Tallinn the most important seems to be to get the projects started. All needed components (maybe – as usual – except the needed initial funding from the public sector) are in place and the partners (university, city and state) have agreed on the principles. Hopefully in the near future Estonia will experience the staring of its second technology park while the first park will begin to expand to new dimensions.
