21st SPICE Meeting 48th ICECE Work Group Meeting

Sinaia, Romania
16 – 19 Apr 2000

The NATO Advanced Research Workshop in Sinaia, Romania (some 120 km from Bucharest) brought together experts in technology transfer and business incubation from 17 countries. 12 of these countries were (co-)represented by SPICE/ICE members. Almost 40 percent of the speakers were members of this global network—an illustration of the level of expertise meanwhile gathered in the ICECE/SPICE Group. The conference dealt with all different aspects and tools of technology transfer between research and industry as well as between industrial partners. From university marketing to technology park development—form contract development for SMEs to the transfer potential of basic research: The role and importance of technology transfer as an instrument to promote (regional) economic development again was confirmed and potentials for promoting innovation and competitiveness as well as obstacles for transfer of technology became clear. The intensive and highly motivated discussion following every presentation helped understanding the situation in the participating countries and provided further insight and understanding of the mechanisms. The new personal contacts established during the conference were strengthened during the concluding reception in the City Brasov.
