The Regional Workshop Successful Business Incubation, 4-5 November, 2005 Yerevan, Armenia, workshop enjoyed high attention by the Armenian government and was opened by Mr. Karen Tchshmarityan, Minister of Trade and Economic Development. The Deputy Minister of Trade and Economic Development of the Republic of Armenia, A. Gevorgyan, spoke about the "National Policy for Entrepreneurship Development as the Core of Economic Reform in the Republic of Armenia" and outlined the importance of small and medium enterprises for the economic development of the country. Another keynote presentation, delivered by Antal Szab, Regional Adviser on Entrepreneurship and SMEs (UNECE, Geneva) dealt with "Business Incubation as Element of the Business Service Institutions and their Role in Development of Entrepreneurship and Creation of new Enterprises" and summarized business incubation developments in former Soviet Union countries. Bagrat Yengibaryan, Enterprise Incubator Foundation, presented the development of "Business Incubation and Development of Armenian IT sector ", a project financially supported by World Bank / infoDev, and Khachatur Khachikyan, ViaSphere Technopark, re-ported on "Managing Technopark: Factors of Success" (see separate article in this Update).
The international component was represented by Krzysztof Zasiadly, PBICA Polish Business and Innovation Centers Association, speaking about "Best Practice in Creation of Business Incubator Association Based on National Experiences" and Heinz Fiedler, President, SPICE Group, presenting experience with "Formal and Informal Networking for Business Incubators: Tools and Experience". As well as holding a workshop on "Key success factors for business incubation"
At the workshop also other business incubation projects in Armenia were presented: "Goris and Gyumri Business Incubators: Launching Feasibility Study Project", presented by Rshtun Martirosyan.
